This year “Jazz and Wine in Montalcino” will celebrate its 20th birthday, and sensational events are expected for this important music show!
“Jazz and Wine in Montalcino” is one of the most famous, appreciated and long-stading music festival of our Country, where great jazz music meets high quality wine. It is no coincidence that Montalcino is the home of Brunello wine, born in Tuscany but loved, known and drunk all over the world!
The project was born thanks to the partnership between the well-known winery Banfi, the Rubei family from Alexanderplatz of Rome and the municipality of Montalcino.
“Jazz and Wine in Montalcino” has the peculiarity of being the only Italian festival with its own steady Orchestra, directed by a great director, Maestro Corvini: a tight-knit twenty-piece group which made the “Jazz and Wine in Montalcino” famous all over the world.
During this edition, the “Jazz and Wine Orchestra” will be performing with some virtuoso soloists: the trombone of Marcello Rosa, with special guest Filippo La Porta (percussions), and Stefano di Battista, worldwide renowned saxophonist who will delight the audience with a Be-Bop dedicated performance.
As tradition, “Jazz and Wine in Montalcino” will start in the Banfi Castle on Tuesday, july 18th: one of the best international jazz pianist, Yakir Arbib, will perform with Roberto Giaquinto on drums and Francesco Ponticelli on double-bass.
On Wednesday, july 19th, the “Jazz and Wine Orchestra” directed by Mario Corvini will be performing in the fourteenth-century Fortress of Montalcino, while on Thursday, july 20th will take place ROBERT GLASPER EXPERIMENT show, with Robert Glasper.
The ROY HARGROVE QUINTET will be elegantly performing on july 21st.
The show of Saturday, july 22nd, will see the trumpets as protagonists, with the European Legends Quintet presenting a new project which bonds two famous trumpeters, Enrico RAVA and Tomasz STANKO.
On Sunday, july 23rd, the Gran Finale, with the breathtaking piano of Danilo Rea and his “Something in our way”: Rea’s sensitivity and genius evoke the great hits of Beatles and Rolling Stones.
Before the official start of the festival, there will be “Aspettando Jazz and Wine”, with two premiered performances inside the historical walls of Banfi Castle: on Thursday, july 6th, Giovanni Amato Quintet will be presenting a new project; on Thursday, july 13th, the TANKIO BAND with Napoleon Murphy Brock will be performing a fascinating show inspired by Frank Zappa.
